WeLIFT, located in Indianola, Iowa, provides rural Iowa residents with free help locating, applying for and obtaining employment.

In operation since December 2006, our staff of instructors and volunteers educate, support and encourage clients in their effort to improve their quality of life through gainful employment.

We are funded in part by grants from United Way of Central Iowa, the Warren County Philanthropic Partnership and the Presbyterian Hunger Fund as well as private donations.

Training sessions and all client materials are provided at no cost.

The following training options are currently available:


Job Search Training. This training is held each Thursday. The morning session is from 9 AM to noon and the evening session is from 6-8 PM. You may call (515) 962-5017 to register or attend on a walk-in basis. Both sessions include the following items:

  • Writing a professional resume and cover letter. Learn how to give potential employers the information they need about your experience and skills in a concise, professional format.

  • Job search. Only 10% of jobs are listed in the newspaper. Instructors provide tips and resources to help you find more available job opportunities including how to search and apply for positions online.

  • Interview Practice. Preparation and practice are keys to being successful during this part of the employment process.  We will role play an actual job interview and gently critique your answers and body language.

  • Resource Center. Free and ongoing use of computers for online job searches/applications, email and for cover letter writing. Fax machine and copy machine are also available.

Clients are provided with paper copies of their resume & cover letter and mailing envelopes. They also receive the information on a disk for personal use along with resources such as a listing of online job search sites, an application fact sheet, and a tracking form to know where you've applied and when to follow-up.


Workplace Essentials. This training is offered on an ongoing basis each Thursday during two different class times: 9 AM to noon and 6-8 PM.  Sessions cover a variety of topics to help you be successful in your career such as:

  • Managing work and home

  • Communication in the workplace

  • Self-esteem

  • Goal setting

  • Emotions in the workplace

  • Dealing with difficult people

  • Dressing for success

  • ...And many more relevant topics

You may call ahead to find out the topic for the week and register or attend on a walk-in basis.
